It’s probably the skew of the internet that I only see US politicians being complete idiots. For example, the ‘debate’ where this bet was proposed was between Romney (out-of-touch millionaire) with Rick Perry (famous for recently making a campaign advert in which he said that gays shouldn’t serve in the military and then implied that this was somehow related to children being told not to celebrate Christmas). By comparison, Romney seems like a liberal genius, but the balance is so far away from normal people that any rational judgement is impossible.
Like I say, this is probably just due to the distance: obviously the most insane politicians are going to get the most coverage, but I do wonder sometimes.

No, if anything you’re missing some of the insanity. This election’s crop of Republicans is amazingly bad.
Well, I’m pleased that it means Obama will probably get another round, but insane politicians are never a good thing.
Here are the Republican nominee highlights, as told by Jon Stewart. There are a few other choice bloopers out there, but this one debate minted the gold standard of election ridiculousness.

It’s nice to see that the global media is actually doing a good job of representing the reality of the situation… Now I just wish that the reality was more appealing. Ho hum.
