Hurrah! It’s comic day!
Readers of this bit may be pleased to hear that I have finally got The Flaming Lips Soft Bulletin out of my head; however, it has been replaced by OK Go’s new album Oh No (UK link US link). Do you know the Supergrass album I Should Coco? (UK link US link) It was the first album by Supergrass and is a non-stop blitz of pop-rock fun, with loads of catchy riffs and great lyrics. That’s what OK No reminds me of.
It’s OK Go’s second album; the previous one called (slightly confusingly) OK Go was a little on the cheesy side. It sounded self-consciously like an attempt to fit into a particular market, aiming itself somewhere around the emo/post-punk mark in a way that managed to be fun enough, but mostly just generic. OK No, the second album, marks a big shift in their production style to something that’s altogether more fun and interesting. The lyrics have, perhaps, a bit of The Flaming Lips in them, especially the first track Invincible which seems to have been partially inspired by the title track of Yoshimi Battles The Pink Robots (UK link US link), but that’s no bad thing, demonstrated by my recent difficulty in shifting Flaming Lips songs from my head. Seriously, I love Oh No and you should check it out. If you fancy a quick sample, here’s the fantastic treadmill video of ‘Here It Goes Again’ from OK No.
On a different note, I decided that my increased time drawing meant that I should get myself a professional graphics tablet, so I used my Amazon.com vouchers to get a Wacom Intuos3 6X8 Pen Tablet (UK link US link). All I can say is ‘hubba hubba’. If a piece of computing kit could have my babies, this would be the mother of my children. It is so sexy that there are now road signs in front of my house warning passing motorists that they may be overcome by suddenly amorous feelings as they drive by, the aura of sexiness from the graphics tablet is that strong. I rather like it.
That’s it from me this week. I’m planning on working more on my thesis this weekend, drawing some more comics, and maybe doing some kung fu. Yep, it’s going to be another fun weekend. See you Monday!
I LOVED “Okgo”. I shall be sure to go and buy the new one. Been enjoying your animations for a while now, y9! i discovered your wonderful mittens and little goth girl (you know, the whole goth period you go through when you’re 14) and have been enjoying your efforts ever since.

I don’t think of myself as ever having gone through a fully internalised ‘Goth’ phase, but I think I’ve been ambiently gothesque since around 20. I was a late starter!
