‘Ye’ was never a word in English. It’s a mistake originating from a misreading of the letter ‘thorn’, which has since stopped being used. The thorn was pronounced ‘th’, but when written in the medieval heavy serif handwriting looked a lot like a ‘y’, so some people assumed when looking at old texts that ‘ye’ (thorn-e) was actually pronounced ‘ye’.
Oh, and have a lovely Christmas, if that’s a thing that you celebrate!
